Online personalities

I read an interesting article here about personalities and their social networking. It seems like most of the stars who blog or are on a social networking sites based in the UK are themselves, and don't pay others to do the work for them.

Necessary Skills

I keep reading articles like this one and this one on lifeskills that people hope their children would learn. What is interesting is that meeting and working with different software developers, project manager, support personnel, systems administrators and testers is that the people who have better interpersonal skills did not have their career focused at working in IT from a young age but at a board range of things. Yet I keep reading articles from e-skills that want to force young people down a specialise track from the age of 14. While e-skills are an employer based organisation they should recognise that some of their best technical employees on different levels started in IT much later in their career.

By the way I keep getting distracted by gardening and DIY which is why I'm not writing so much.

Shopping for Handbags & Where Do You Put Your Mobile

Next week I'm going to a wedding. Therefor a friend, who is also an IT worker, and I have been shopping for accessories. Accessories, to the uninitiated, are items that complete an outfit and how make it look different. Anyway my friend was trying to decide what handbag she was going to get and she looked purse. While the purse was the right colour it was very small so I pointed out to her that it was a bit too small to put a mobile and money in it.

Anyway I read this report from Nokia that apparently 61% of women carry their mobile in their handbag and as a result miss lots of calls because they can't find the phone in time. The report, here, is one of those reports that you probably could find simplar answers to by just surveying the people in your office.

More plants and painting

I'm suppose to be writing about technique issues but at the moment I have to go and do more painting. I am painting the ceiling of my bedroom milky white and as you can guess the paint is going everywhere. I also went to a DIY store to buy an ironing board but for some reason I brought more plant stuff as well.

Right back to the painting.

Being busy

The reason I'm posting so little is that I moved house and now have to redecorate. One of the funny things about moving house is the parking situation. Before I parked anywhere on the street and didn't have a problem parking because everybody else had a garage. Now I can park infront of my apartment however how I park i.e. exact position and location was agreed with my neighbours. However due to living in a restricted parking zone some people have decided parking in front of the building is a free for all and park in a position bound to cause maximum distress for residents. So every now and again someone receives a sign on their windscreen informing them that the parking is for residents. Unfortunately it's the council's fault for not enforcing residents parking on this particular part of the road. I think this council is basically inept and have written to my local MP with some questions about recycling as this council doesn't do much doorstep recycling either.

Law

I am in the process of moving house so my posts will be infrequent for the next 2 months. :(

Anyway I have complained before to companies who put me on their email marketing list without my consent and surprise surprise a new study has come out stating that email marketing abuse is rife. Basically firms are not following the EU Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications by asking for customers to opt-in and not sending out unsolicited mail to non-customers.

Another new law that has come to my attention is the UK government's Amendments to the Companies Act that makes it clear that from January 2007 every company is required to list its company registration number, place of registration and registered office address on its web site, order forms and other electronic business letters.

I have not checked how many UK companies are complying with the new law that I deal with but due to the rushed nature of the Act I reckon lots of companies are breaching it.
